ABOUT

Digestive Health

We live in a fast-paced society and this makes eating on the run a way of life for many.  Most fast food, even “healthy fast foods” contains ingredients such as the following:  Refined and processed carbohydrates (pasta, bread, crackers, cookies etc), genetically modified ingredients, palm oil, hidden sources of sugar and/or pesticides and preservatives.  Any one of these foods can cause digestive symptoms to develop, but especially the combination of multiple ingredients can all have a very negative impact on the health of our gut. Another issue comes the many fad diets being publicized by non-medical podcasters through the various social media platforms. These diets often lead to unhealthy eating patterns, yoyo dieting and even more trauma to the digestive system.  Common symptoms that result include bloating, gas, stomach pain, heartburn, constipation and/or diarrhea.  Fortunately there are many effective natural solutions to improve digestive health by adopting a well balanced diet, making healthy lifestyle modifications and following personalized supplement regimes.  Let our Naturopathic Doctors guide you on your journey to acheiving gut health!

HEALING STARTS WITH A COMPLETE ASSESSMENT

First things first…. what is causing your digestive concerns?  Food intolerances are a common issue, along with an altered microbial balance.  Stress is a common cause of IBS and trigger for IBD and ulcers so an assessment of your mental wellness and ability to stress manage will also be conducted. Your Naturopathic Doctor will assess for these and any other issues through a complete assessment and physical exam.  If any additional laboratory testing is indicated they will advise you of such and discuss the pro’s and con’s of each.

TREATMENTS

YOUR Customized Treatment plan

Once the core issues have been identified, your Naturopathic Doctor will formulate a treatment plan based on the most up-to-date information available. This will include one or a combination of the following:

diet and nutrition

Food is the best medicine and this is a cornerstone of naturopathic and holistic nutritional practice. Many medical conditions can be improved more with therapeutic foods and nutritional supplements than they can by other means, with fewer complications and side effects.

Naturopathic doctors use dietetics, cleansing and nutritional supplementation to establish a proper nutritional foundation for their patients.  Read more about our Naturopathic Doctors or book a consultation with one to ask any questions you may have.

Vitamins and natural supplementation

It’s true that the supplements found at health clinics are typically more expensive then the prices you’ll find in superstores, however, it’s often not a big difference and the quality assurance offered makes it worth your while.  These supplements are typically better absorbed and more effective, giving you the peace of mind that what you are taking is actually doing what it is intended to do.

herbal medicine

Plant substances are powerful medicines used to treat a variety of illnesses. Where single chemically-derived drugs may only address a single problem, botanical medicines are able to address a variety of problems simultaneously. Their organic nature makes botanicals compatible with the body’s own chemistry; hence, they can be gently effective with few toxic side effects.
